Senate backs effort to restore a net neutralitya rules

There are 14 comments on the The Tribune story from Wednesday May 16, titled Senate backs effort to restore a net neutralitya rules. In it, The Tribune reports that:

Senate Democrats, joined by three Republicans, pushed through a measure Wednesday intended to revive Obama-era internet rules that ensured equal treatment for all web traffic, though opposition in the House and the White House seems insurmountable. Republicans on the short end of the 52-47 vote described the effort to reinstate "net neutrality" rules as "political theater" because the GOP-controlled House is not expected to take up the issue and the Senate's margin could not overcome a presidential veto.

A valiant effort, but the telecom lobbyists are far too deep in the Republican pockets to get this through the House.

Yet another in the long list of giant “conservative”/tRumpian FU’s to the working man.

Sad.

"But the FCC’s move has stirred fears among consumer advocates that cable and phone giants will be free to block access to services they don’t like or set up “fast lanes” for preferred services — in turn, relegating everyone else to “slow lanes.”

Yeah, GOD FORBID we allow companies to charge more for faster lanes or expect those who use more bandwidth to pay more.

Hmmm, let's see, what do we call it when people/businesses are allowed to determine what to charge for various products and services which their customers have the option of paying or not paying?

Oh, I know, it's capitalism.

True enough, Obama screwed the working man by stating not one dime in new taxes for the middle class, then piled them on. They then decided once a liar always a liar and voted Republican for 2016.

When did the Internet become commercially viable??? Late 80's or early 90's I think.

Either way, they provided the FIRST medium in human history where the average citizen had a public stage to express his or her views.

BUT the Rich and Powerful, and the Governments they control, don't like that.

So the UBER RICH concocted a scheme in the US, "Net Neutrality", whereby the government could treat the Internet as a utility, thereby giving itself heavy regulatory control. Of course that control would silence the voice of the average citizen once again, but it was presented as just the opposite, and many uninformed individuals bought into the con.

"Net Neutrality" would be more accurately named NET NEUTRALIZATION.

The "working man" ALREADY pays more for faster internet packages.

https://www.att.com/internet/

Why shouldn't providers do the same thing?

No one is denying them access, just saying that if you want it faster, there's a fee for that.

Nice try.

The issue isn’t about how many devices you can hook into, it’s about putting a premium on the individual content channels coming into the house.

I’d love to believe that ending NN will “open up the internet” and offer up serious competition in the marketplace, but with the Big 3 spending over $500,000,000 to end NN, I honestly don’t think that’s what they have in mind.
