    John Bisagno, for years one of Houston's most beloved pastors, known for his passion for outreach, booming voice and willingness to tackle difficult truths, has passed away. He was 84. Gregg Matte, the current lead pastor of Houston's First, said listening to tapes of Bisagno's sermons inspired him in the 1980s as a teenager at Elsik High School.

    She graduated from Duluth High School and, after being a homemaker in Wayne, Mich., she divorced her first husband, James Blitz, and put herself through nursing school while caring for six children. After graduation, Bea married Maynard Seim and moved to Terre Haute, Ind., where she was active in the Newcomers Club and Christ Lutheran Church.

    Former EDC leader Herb Appel dies at 76

    Herb Appel, who guided the fledgling Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council from a startup to world-class economic organization, passed away July 10 while on a family cruise. He was 76. Appel was encouraged by local businessmen in 1986 to take charge of the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council to promote the county as an ideal location for home developers, businesses and industries.
