There are 8 comments on the Vallejo Times-Herald story from Jun 11, 2018, titled Vallejo school board gets first look at upcoming budget. In it, Vallejo Times-Herald reports that:

The Vallejo school board's annual tradition of receiving sobering budget numbers continued recently as trustees received news about the district's need to trim $13 million from future fiscal year budgets. Trustees held a public hearing during the June 6 board meeting on the proposed 2018-19 budget and following two fiscal years.

Every school board meeting should start with a statement of what percentage of Vallejo school age residents go to public schools, and what is the attendance rate.

Those are the only metrics that matters right now to the taxpayers, that's where the money is and all the other metrics of academic performance, violence, poor quality classrooms, an inability to attract and retain top teachers that the superintendent and board need to address will all show up in those two metrics.

If the school district, or the superintendent, or the school board trustees really are concerned about improving facilities, all they need to do is convince the students who fled this district even though they live here to return, AND stop the ADA loss due to an absenteeism rate that is nearly equal to the attendance rate. They won't do that! That would be hard. They want easy.

Student population has dropped from over 20,000 to 13,000 today, and is already projected to drop to 11,000 in about 2 terms. That district needs to start thinking about closing and selling some schools. Why oh why is the ostrich in the sand form of management so established in that school district! It's almost like they want the state to take them back again. But oh no, all the trustees, the superintendent, and the union belonging staff can think of is how to get their hands on and to spend on union jobs that bond money.

You know, it really would be cheaper to just give each student $50,000.00 each year of the student's academic life and tell the kid, here's your money. Get your own education with it. What a pathetic development in the progress of California public education!

How stupid and shallow to judge anything on the criteria of whether a flag or any other symbolic display is present!

The district will eventually be forced to close campuses and sell the properties for affordable housing, including homeless housing, in which case they will not be homeless, just worthless bums on the dole. Charter schools and out of district transfers are choking the life out of VCUSD, and good riddance.
