"Wilson spent 100 hours in three dog parks, where she made note of a whole bunch of times when one dog humped another. When the humping was male-on-male, owners intervened in the overwhelming number of cases. But when the humping was male-on-female, owners were far less likely to stop it. This, the study suggests, might say something about the owners' internalized homophobia and their willingness to overlook female victims of sexual assault."

Yeah, maybe, although people at dog runs tend to skew female and tend to skew more pro lgbt relative to their immediate locales. Talking every day for years with strangers about all things animal companion at a dog run is not a homophobic milieu.

A stronger possibility is that dog owners are aware that one male dog evidencing dominance behavior (mounting, not usually "raping,") over another male dog, fixed or not, is more likely to result in a dog fight than when a male dog does the same to a female dog.

The right wing is, meanwhile, just reflexively having fun deriding the possibility of any insight or knowledge from this study whatsoever. But the right wing does that with climate science, too, so so what?

Reminds me of the book Tearoom Trade by Laud Humphreys published in 1970. He was a sociologist from Washington University who spent many hours studying the interactions of men in restrooms in public parks, restaurants, stores, libraries and other public places. I remember meeting him and his wife at the meeting of the first gay rights organization in St. Louis, the Mandrake Society.

i'm sure he did. Hands on and lots of oral study.
I wouldn't know. I met him only once, and haven't seen or heard of him again. His work was pretty obscure. I vaguely remember seeing his obit a few years ago. And I never heard any rumors about his sexuality.

I don't think he is gay.
I don't think he is, either. I think he's a very disturbed closet case, whether he's "just here having fun" or not.
