Hey, Anthony Bruno was sentenced today. Does anyone know how it turned out? This is the one person who could destroy Serpico if he decides to talk.

Maybe it was continued to give him some more time to figure out who or what to give up in a plea deal.

Always thought he was good friends with Mayor Serpico. Didn't the Mayor like to call him a genius and wasn't Bruno his favorite consultant?

You are correct. Anthony is a genious & he knows Serpico inside & out -- HE KNOWS EVERYTHING. So, who's the one person who can give him up? When it comes to going to jail or giving someone up, I doubt he will stay loyal to his "friend". It's called saving your own ass.

Bruno was very good friends with Mayor Serpico and made a ton of money as a result. But Bruno and the village attorney didn't get along too well, sort of a personal and professional jealosy thing. Because the village attorney and Serpico were also good friends for a long time, and Serpico didn't want to be in the middle, and because Bruno had become a "hot potato" by that time, he was shown the door. Gotta think that left a bitter taste in Bruno's mouth, having helped the Mayor and the village attorney fix a lot of the problems that existed when the Mayor was first elected (pension deficit, antiquated water system, lack of community development). Being ungrateful and taking people for granted is a way of life in the Serpico administration, and Bruno is not the kind of guy who easily forgets things.

Geez, what's wrong with you, and where have you been? First of all, I never said anything about village prosecutor. There's a big difference in being the village attorney and being the prosecutor, and a whole lot more pay is involved. Next, Joe Taconi is the former prosecutor, having been shown the door a few years ago, sort of like Anthony Bruno was shown the door. Next, Joe Taconi was never even the village attorney, I guess because he had some sort of mental meltdown a few years before Serpico was first elected. Ever since, he's been kind of fragile like I read somewhere else around here, and Serpico would never have put him in a high-pressured position like that. So there, now do you get it?

Oh my, wasn't that Cathy Italia's boyfriend for awhile when they were both married to separate spouses? Didn't Gigilo's wife threaten to take him to the cleaners in a nasty divorce. And didn't Gigilo's wife even change her hair style to try to match Italia's? And didn't Gigilo drop Italia like a hot knife through butter after he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar? Hint, hint, hint: all the answers are yes.

You are correct, grasshopper. She decided he wasn't worth the trouble and moved on to other guys, and he just moved on. In fact, Joe Gigilo was the Village attorney right from the beginning of the Serpico administration, so you can only imagine what he knows. Recently, with all of the heat caused by the Vito nonsense, he quietly stepped down from that position, leaving people to wonder what exactly his true reasons were. My guess is that he saw the oncoming Fed train coming straight at the village and he wanted to get out of the way in a hurry. Of course, as an attorney, he can hide behind the attorney-client privelege, except for his own acts of criminality and misconduct.

Bruno is nearly 60 years old. Physically he's always been a runt and a coward. He will not do well in prison for any length of time if he can't convince the other inmates he's connected and protected.

Bruno will throw Serpico and anyone else under the bus if it will reduce Bruno's sentence.

Feds accuse ex-lawyer of role in '90s theater extortion plot. A high-profile municipal consultant worked with a crooked Melrose Park police chief in the late 1990s to strong-arm a movie theater chain into hiring private guards, fededral prosecutors allege. Anthony Bruno, 57, is awaiting sentencing for falsely claiming losses of more than $100,000 on a tax return for his economic development firm. Prosecutors are seeking a 30-month prison term for the disbarred Elmhurst attorney. In a sentencing memo to the court, prosecutors have accused Bruno of a separate crime: working with former Melrose Park Police Chief Vito Scavo in 1999 to extort Cinemark Theatres into hiring security at levels the company did not want. When Cinemark balked, Bruno threatened to hold up a cerfificate of occupancy the company needed to open the theater, prosecutors say. Bruno denies any extortion, saying he simply persuaded Cinemark to honor a promise to hire the guards. He also said there's no proof he knew Scavo intended to supply the guards with Scavo's own firm.

Oh really?? First of all we have a very good police dept. These men risk their lives everyday trying to keep MP crime free. Secondly, why would a mexican mayor solve anything in MP? Will a hispanic mayor get rid of all the illegals in MP? Will he put an end to the overcrowding your people are so famous for? Will he put an end to the mexican gangs in MP? Will he clean up the roach infested restaurants in our disgusting downtown? Will he promote American citizenship? Will he encourage learning the English language? I think not. What you are describing is turning MP into another Cicero. Why should the residents of MP agree with your idea? I'm hoping just the opposite will happen. Condemn the blighted areas where the Mexicans have destroyed everything & get rid of the disgusting downtown area. Let's start over, tiff out the land & bulldoze all the rat traps the Mexicans have created. Maybe then they will either become English speaking American citizens or move back to mexico.

Darth Vador,

What are you so afraid of? Were you bullied by a Latino during your childhood? Did a mexican beat you out on your tee-ball team where now you have this big rift against them?

Your questions are ridiculous. "Will a hispanic mayor get rid of all the illegals in MP?" For Christ sake, no mayor can do that, no matter what nationality. Taddeo didn't, Serpico hasn't, because they are not ICE........there job is and was to govern a town, not choose which races can live here and who can't.

I've read most of your post through out the past months which you have continued to spew racist and moronic views on pretty much every topic discussed, and at the end of the day, you are a lost cause. Instead of seeing how we can make this town a community, integrate, you choose to see how we can separate it more.

Mexicans are in melrose park, and they are the majority of citizens, let's learn to see how we can all work together to better our town instead of ripping on an entire culture over and over again because you don't understand it, but then again, seems like you don't understand much.

Answer me this.
All these things you bring up are accurate. But ask yourself. What have the last two Italian mayors done about those same issues you speak of besides cause and encourage them to occur and fester under their corrupt administrations.
Wake up.; Italians have done more to ruin their own town than the illegals have. Who let them in. Besides, the Italians stole the town from the German majority years ago. But that's ok I guess.

I don't believe expecting people to become American citizens if they want to live here is being racist. I live next door to a very nice mexican family & we get along just fine thank you. These people are legal citizens, learned to speak english & have only one family living in the house. I do not think this is asking too much. This country is a melting pot wth every nationality living in it. My ancestors came here & were proud to become citizens, learn the language & became proud americans. They would not accept a hand out like free milk for the kids & food stamps - they were to proud & worked hard to feed their own family. I hate when I get asked to press 1for english & 2 for spanish. All I ask is become a citizen, learn the language & one family per home please. You are right getting rid of illegals is very far-fetched. However, I believe the other questions are very legitimate.

I have no hatred for any nationality. I do believe if you want to live in America - become a law biding citizen. You are the one telling me that the mexicans are taking over the entire town. I don't believe you will ever see the day. Politics is politics. A mexican major will have his hands in the pot too. It certainly isn't only an italian thing. Once any politician gets too much power problems begin. Mexicans are losing their homes in MP at an alarming rate. Our taxes will be going up so high soon that they won't be able to afford to live here. Furthermore, the plan is to level 19th & Lake street in the future & say bye bye to your taco joints. Live like an American or go home.
