Big changes coming to the City of Ashland Water Distribution Department. Looks like a couple of supervisors are on the chopping block and no I am not speaking of Eastwood. You can't continue to lie and play both sides without eventually forgetting to cover up something major. The paper trail is there and now it's all but over.

Sounds interesting! We will be following this story.

There is a problem in that department and, no matter the supervisor problems, Eastwood is ultimately responsible.

Well then HOT SHOT, if you have all the inside scoop, start naming names....

It is very hard to believe that anyone would be admonished for anything in Ashland.

Dept. Heads and supervisors lose money and investory, write "not to be cashed checks", allow third world types of disruption in water, plot against business owners, etc. and are never held accountable.

Believe it when I see it....

The final decision will be made in executive session of the commission meeting on Thursday. Once it is finalized then come Friday morning the changes will be announced.

We pay a great deal in Ashland to make sure we have water and our toilets flush. We make a difference by holding our government leaders and department heads responsible for proper expenditure of our tax dollars in accomplishing reliable water and sewage provision.
If we wanted to do our own repairs there would be no need to hire anyone.

Maybe Build Ashland can help you after they get through ordering armbands and mowing wealthy doctors rentals for free.

I think the PE in Eastwoods title stands for Physical Education major and not public engineer.

Haha. Maybe you're using the wrong wrench. Shouldn't have to worry about a water main break every month. You city goof balls couldn't pack my tool belt!

Often people that don't know what they are talking about start a conversation by stating others "have no idea what they are talking about".

When it comes to water breaks, we know that we pay a lot of money as home and business owners and expect to be able to reliably have potable water. It is not acceptable to continually be without water or told to boil it. In Ashland, you would have to have a large cauldron boiling most all the time.

Yes, we understand the cost and time involved in replacing the old worn pipes with new ones but we also know the dire consequences to business and families of NOT fixing the infrastructure.

We can actually do without hotels, parking garages, etc. but we can't do without water. Time to move some money Commissioners. Less employee costs and more money toward infrastructure.

No new positions, re-evaluate the need for old positions, and start moving money toward a well thought out and structured plan to ensure reliable water delivery to all business and citizens.

The frustration is almost palpable from anyone in the city when discussion turns toward Eastwood and his failed plan (or should I say lack of a real plan). There is a point where excuses just aren't enough.

Well I hope you like your water bill being 3 times as much cause that's what it would take and if you think itshard to get around town now just wait till more streets are ripped up to make way for progress you act like no one has thought about replacing water lines but the funding needed plus what it would do to the community has to be thought out just look at the drain line on 295th st people are losing there minds over a 2 block area and the 5 minute disruption to there commute the Water system is governed by elected officials and anyone in politics can tell you raising rates is never popular and doesn't help you get re elected and the Water breaks are not any worse than years past you can thank social media for letting everone know where and why as to why people are freaking out over them

He didn't say raise the rates, he said move money from employee hires and other places. Spend our money more efficiently and focus on what is most important.

People are upset over 29th street because the Eastwood estimates are always inaccurate. He always comes up short, always inconveniences the citizens, and always has an excuse.

Thinking about line replacement doesn't fix anything but making a realistic plan and moving forward is necessary for the future of Ashland.

If you don't have a plan, throwing money at the water issues won't work. First evaluate if Eastwood is the right person to head up water. I don't know if giving him the water dept was another cost saving move, but moving forward with him if he doesn't know what he's doing seems crazy. This commission tossed $300k at local charities instead of checking infrastructure needs first(looking at you bus system). But what do I know? They want to hire a communication person to sooth us over new breaks. And the commission will congratulate themselves over this bold move.

If you get rid of Eastwood and leave the supervisors of water department then nothing is going to change for the better.

Eastwood is responsible for the supervisors. If they are the problem, he needs to fix them.

Supervisors are responsible for workers, Eastwood responsible for supervisors, and Grease responsible for Eastwood.

Accountability is a continual problem throughout Ashland city government.

I wish that the newspaper would do an audit on the water department. If the public or even the commissioners knew what actually goes on in that department and the wasted money on employee overtime pay or care free use of their equipment which has to be replaced over and over then the s!$& would hit the fan.

Seems to be another bombshell that was dropped and once the public is aware of the intentional malice that is/was going on there will be outrage. Let's just hope no one in Cannonsburg gets sick from the water they are buying from Ashland

Once the director is gone the city must remove the Superintendent of the Department. This HAS to be the absolute worst ran department in the city.
